Parenting Your Sensitive Child —
Understanding What Makes Them Tick
From the outside, sensitivity looks like someone who refuses things that look like something they should be able to tolerate, needing more time to transition and recover, and parents who wrestle with their own insecurities about what is too much to ask.
The main reason "being too sensitive" is an issue is because sensitivity without knowing what to do with it — and without having support to work through it — can be deeply uncomfortable, which makes those around us uncomfortable too.
Add to this that a sensitive child may have what mainstream calls a learning disability, so they can't find the words to explain why they are feeling stress, or they may tend towards aggressive behaviour when frustrated, and not everyone has the ability to heal this before they add more to the child's plate.
What we sense is information. When we are not allowed to adjust to the information that we take in, the signals compound.
In a Kirlian photo, one of the reasons issues may come up in the right ring finger — including disturbance in any of the hormonal glands, from the hypothalamus and pineal gland down to the ovaries, uterus, and prostate, connected to burdens of the psyche — is that the individual may view their sensitivity as a weakness, so they suppress their true nature, with some turning to addiction, which leads to alienation from the world and internal stress. Many people suffer from hormonal issues. They have even renamed PCOS to PMOS to reflect how widespread the impact of throwing off our hormonal system can be, if you're curious to learn more about the connection between childhood conflict and serious illness, book a free 15 minute consultation, so I can understand your situation better before providing a response.
In Esogetics, the first three years is when we download our life program via our hormonal system, if we felt safe. Not being in contact with our life program makes us feel unsafe.
Sometimes what looks like anxiety in a child traces back further than anyone can see from the outside. One of our kids was conceived via IVF. My body was not ready — my tubes were blocked, perimenopause was approaching, and in the first round none of the embryos survived because the synthetic hormone administered prior to retrieval hadn't matured my eggs. Our daughter was the lone survivor of a cohort of twelve, her development deemed "not quite optimal" by the staff. I had learned to go through the motions to protect myself from attachment and disappointment. I imagine she carried significant survival stress from those earliest days — and what may have translated into her aggressive need to be perfect.
Reaching what someone is carrying from such an early time requires tools like Kirlian photography and Esogetic Medicine. Although, even just having a framework to understand how something that happened so early could have such a powerful impact.
When a child is old enough to understand, hiding what happened early in their development is not advised — having language for why they feel the way they feel is part of what helps them release it.
Something that happens early in development can cause eyes to turn in when stressed, and a nervous system that loses its words and vocalizes distress — not to self-regulate, but to signal: something is wrong, I need help. It takes a lot of compassion and patience to convert "I am stressed and can not tolerate what you are doing" to "we need to remember where this is coming from and keep working to see what will help it release". This is why I learned Esogetic Medicine.
My child's anxiety is exacerbated by what happens now because what happened in the early days of her conception is still being processed which is sometimes keeping her stuck. Sensitivity is not always about what a parent did or didn't do, it's just an artifact of whether development happened in an environment that felt safe, which is often beyond their parents' control. But we can still do the work to remember and to try to make it right, rather than hold onto silent fear that we caused this. It was the lack of human understanding that causes many things, and working to fix it is how we expand this understanding so that others can be more aware. It takes a sensitive person to tell us what we have become less sensitive to.
Following our life plan naturally brings conflict into our lives, because this is not what most people are allowed to do. Working through conflict is also how we grow. Parenting a child in a way that allows them to remain sensitive is not a decision most parents make — mostly because they were not allowed to keep their sensitivity either, or because they are sensitive too and can't handle any more.
How we work with this is the same as any other condition, as outlined here:
→ Navigating ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Anxiety, and Autism
The goal is always to put someone in touch with their life plan and to help them digest their experiences, so they can continue to navigate life and see the options that are in front of them. The more we allow, the easier it becomes — but it takes trust. This is why we have Unique Psychology in addition to Esogetic Medicine: it allows you to see a framework that you can trust, as you engage in something that can feel like a wild card. We do not always know how a person will respond when they are put in touch with their truth. This is why having someone who can hold space for what comes up after treatment matters as much as the treatment itself. Between-session support is mentioned on my homepage and in the article linked above.
Sensitivity is a gift, but the person needs their experiences to be normalized. Adults need to make an effort to understand how kids tend to unravel, and see through it to where they are trying to go. This information was not given to me — it was earned, by making mistakes with my own children, and then giving them credit for when I was wrong.
There are certainly markers in Human Design and Soul Contract for why someone might appear to be sensitive, but a Kirlian photo is better — because Unique Psychology is the plan, and Felt Safety is the reaction to how the plan was allowed to play out.
To hold space for a sensitive child, someone also needs to hold space for you. As you begin to understand yourself, you will have space inside of you to understand your child.
