Pain is due to embodied chill — how we cope with it determines if chill can escape and we get better, or if chill gets compounded and we get worse

Updated: 4 days ago

Pain is the body's way of telling us that chill is stuck inside our body and is looking for a way to escape. Chill causes bracing. Bracing prevents rest, sleep, and recovery. Over time, people develop deep creases in their face or body — from years of holding tension they did not know how to release. The body molds itself around what it is trying to silence and keep away from the heart.

What determines whether chill resolves or compounds is almost never the chill itself. It is how we cope with the pain it causes.

Pick a lane — even the wrong one

In attachment theory, a child can develop secure, insecure, or avoidant attachment — and all three are considered ordered responses to the environment they grew up in. Ordered coping, even when imperfect, is predictable and workable. Disordered coping — where the person goes back and forth "i want you" "i hate you" is very destructive. Same can be said for using heat to treat pain/chill, but having to go through the cold, to access your hot tub.

My husband had low back pain which he was addressing through chiropractic and a hot tub, but then he developed a red, sometime purple, blotchy face. He tried adhering to the food restrictions recommended by his naturopath, after expensive tests revealed food sensitivity as the root cause, but he couldn't stick to making everything from scratch. He was exhausted, starving. and angry.

Stress and lack of movement is that cause of the chill that settles around his middle. Added stress from trying to adhere to a diet makes it worse. He ended up buying a special soap for his face, which seemed to help at first, but the issue is still worse than ever. And now he also has rising blood pressure and a lump on the right side of his torso. All of this is accumulated chill, the fire in his heart is weakening, we can see it in his Kirlian, and we have to be careful with treatment because the standard treatment for the risk we see can make his photo even worse.

What we teach people to suppress

Men are often taught that it is not acceptable to shrink in fear and women are often taught that it is not acceptable to be outspoken. Both of these lessons cause people to hold what the body most needs to express. A weak, small voice or a booming, loud one are both expressions of this.

The client with hip pain

She came in with a weak, high-pitched voice and cold hands and feet. Her pain was in her right hip and outer right knee. Master Yan diagnosed her with deep chill that was impacting her uterus (throwing off her menstrual cycle) and her entire right side, including her liver, which was affecting her vision. Her friend had suggested she see a psychologist, which her mother dismissed as a suggestion, knowing what was capable by working with Master Yan, but, her friend was not far off with her suggestion, so long as she were to work with someone like me. The right side of the body is about knowing how to step out into the world, something we are supposed to learn from dad, and the left side is about issues with women (self-care is something we are supposed to learn from mom). I typically have left side issues, but lately I have been dealing with issues on my right. When issues are one sided, Esogetics calls this laterality, and this means there was trauma before age 25 that caused a block in the corpus callosum, which prevents processing of information on both sides of the brain. We can see this in a Kirlian too: my right hand will weaken before my left, this indicates I had physical trauma before age 25 and I tend to overuse my beta brain waves (left side, thinking brain).

After an initial three-hour session with the tracks, she was able to walk further with fewer breaks, had more range of motion, and felt less pain. Six more days of tracks were recommended and then a follow up visit with Master Yan.

The cold hands and feet are worth noting — the chill was trying to escape, this is good, but without the RestoreChi specialty track, this effort couldn't complete.

My middle daughter

She has barely any body fat — her small intestines don't stay warm. She has cold hands and feet and recurring belly button pain. The intestine RestoreChi Monthly track helps but the pain keeps coming back, which tells us we are managing the symptom rather than addressing the root. The Specialty Chill Release Track is what she needs to address the cause so it stops recurring.

My youngest

She gets sinus congestion when exposed to cold weather and when she eats cold food. She uses the Specialty Chill Release Track to help her sleep and clear it via diarrhea.

My husband

As mentioned, he has been coping with low back pain (sitting too much at a job he reacts more emotionally to than necessary, this is a bonding strategy) by going in the hot tub year round. This is fine in summer, but in the winter it's a significant problem. Exposure to the cold and dampness to access the tub compounds chill rather than releasing it. A heating pad would have been a better coping choice for winter pain (but currently not part of his routine). Movement is ultimately what he needs — the body needs to discharge and generate its own warmth, rather than borrow it from outside. And more regular nutrition, not waiting until he is staring to eat, would better support the fire in his heart.

The way he expresses emotional overwhelm is no different from our kids — noise, frustration, things moving around. The difference is that I had not put enough self-care in place to hold space for him the way I do for them. I had assumed that because he is an adult, that was not my job. But if he goes down, we all go down. This is why we now take weekly Kirlian photos — so we can see what is actually happening and prioritize what needs to be a priority, rather than waiting until it is too late and we have to do life without him.

My Kirlian photos on top (you can see the weakening left hand phenomena), husband's on the bottom (you can see how sometimes trying to open his left index toe with standard treatment can cause this toe and his left little toe to disappear, not to mention the conflict signs under his right index and middle toe, pinching in the middle of his left middle finger has always alluded me, but chill at his core is a good theory, the left middle finger being unresolved emotions from childhood).

Treating him with Esogetic Medicine has helped me see what is underneath the behaviour that is hard to be around, so that I can give him the support he needs — just as much as I offer our kids to help them get better.

My own pain

My right elbow and now shoulder too have been acting up for the past month. The Esogetic message is that it is time to be less aggressive while trying to make space for myself and my work in the world.

The shoulder comes from when my abusive stepfather was finally removed from our home, I punched a wall. My mother's response was to tell me that punching the wall made me just like him. I bottled that. On top of the anger I stuffed in my shoulder when I was doing  physiotherapy for shoulders that tend to dislocate while my stepfather stood over me. My hatred for him never had anywhere to go, because I was always asked to "be nice". This is why my gallbladder was weak and I was getting headaches just before my perimenopause menstruation, a sign that if I don't heal this now, my health will suffer when I am older.

I have been clearing this with the Specialty Chill Release and Reconnect tracks. The Reconnect track right on the liver or directly on the site of pain — shoulder or lower abdomen (to help me clear chill via loose stool) helped soothe the pain. As pain releases from my shoulder, I feel tenderness in my right armpit lymph nodes — a common reaction for me.

This is proof that: old unresolved emotions do get stored physically in our bodies. It causes pain not only while it is held, but also on its release. The clearing is uncomfortable. It is also unmistakably real. This connection may also explain why Master Yan has now combined the Chill Release and 5 Poisons Specialty tracks. As we saw in The Body Puts Up Red Flags for Years | Stage 4 Cancer & RestoreChi | You Have A Life Plan, even highly spiritual people, who have beat the odds when it comes to cancer, have trouble accepting that they have negative emotions and mindsets. And, failing to address these in order to let go, will cause them to relapse.

What happens at the chiropractor

Going to the chiropractor can make things worse for me and for my kids. This is a known effect: symptoms worsen in order to have them clear faster. Chiropractic adjustments also release trapped dampness into the system, the body has to process and move what has been freed.

Chiropractors typically recommend adding heat and movement after adjustments to help the body clear what has been released and to maintain range of motion. The RestoreChi Dampness Release Monthly track can also help.

On alcohol

The occasional drink — one or two times a week, or with family and friends — may not be something to worry about for my husband, but for me, it is something that can cause me pain.

Chill commits through how we cope

The body will always try to signal. The question is whether we are willing to hear it — and whether the people around us are willing to hold space for what the signal is saying rather than suppressing it because telling us to "stop it" is easier to manage.

If you see cold hands and feet, tightness in the body, recurring pain, a voice that carries more than words, or anything here that resonates with you — don't wait. The tools exist for when readiness arrives.
